Patient Policy

Alcoholism and Chemical Dependency is viewed as primary diseases in which an individual manifests a pathological relationship with alcohol and other mind-altering chemicals. Chemical dependency is viewed as a disease entity, progressive in nature, which can be interrupted but never cured. For this reason, the primary goal is continued, meaningful abstinence on the part of the chemically dependent person. Quite often, the patient is also beset with concomitant emotional and psychiatric disorders, which need to be identified and treated with equal energy. Therefore, all patients are assessed initially for both potential chemical dependency as well as mental health problems.

Seabrook House believes that chemical dependency causes complex destructive personality changes in the family. Families suffer psychologically, socially, and, frequently, physically. Therefore, education is offered for family members and/or significant others. Seabrook House also provides information sessions, referrals and intervention services to families affected by a loved ones Chemical Dependency.

Our goal is to help patients achieve meaningful abstinence. The purpose of Seabrook House is to create an environment that will foster the care, concern, and commitment to meet the chemical dependency while providing related treatment, training and educational needs of the community it serves. All clinical programs utilize the principles and philosophies of Twelve Step programs. Seabrook House also believes that the delivery of treatment must be specifically oriented toward the gender, age, sexual orientation, and culture of each patient. Treatment components are provided in the most gender-specific, culturally sensitive, and age appropriate setting as possible.

We believe that treatment works best when patients are motivated and involved in their treatment. Communication on information pertaining to their assessments and treatment options facilitates comprehension, understanding and elicits active participation in treatment. They are so informed and involvement is worked on with their primary therapist. Seabrook House does not use behavior-management programs, fear eliciting procedures, or aversive behavior consequences.
